Wolves remain hopeful of landing Porto pair Ruben Neves and Willy Boly – with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo looking to finalise the bulk of his squad as soon as possible.

Nuno will jet off to Austria on Monday with his new players, although a number of high-profile members of his squad will have to stay at home.

There are currently 29 first-team players at Compton Park, not allowing for Neves or Boly.

If the midfielder joins for a club record £15m and Boly arrives on loan they will be the fifth and sixth signings of the Nuno era with almost two months of the transfer window still remaining.

Negotiations continued yesterday and it’s believed Neves will soon jet to England to complete the deal if talks go well.

It’s thought that if £15m is spent on 20-year-old Portuguese international Neves the budget for the rest of the summer will rely heavily on player sales.

Of the 29 players at Nuno’s disposal it’s believed the likes of Danny Batth, Matt Doherty, Lee Evans and Joe Mason are at risk. Andy Lonergan and Jack Price have been told they can leave and Ethan Ebanks-Landell is still expected to join Championship rivals Sheffield United, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season.

Wolves will also continue, on Fosun’s orders, to place a big emphasis on academy youngsters with the owners keen for potential future stars like Connor Ronan to continue to get minutes for the first team.

Meanwhile, former loanee Andreas Weimann said he loved his time at Wolves – as he returned for pre-season training with Austria.

The former Villa forward said: “I really enjoyed it at Wolves. I played nearly every game and that was my main aim when I went there. From that perspective, it was really good but now I’m happy to be back here and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.”
