Paul Gladon says he's pleased to have returned to former club Heracles after his difficult year at Wolves.

The £1m signing made just three scoreless appearances in gold and black and hasn't kicked a ball in anger for the first team since September.

Ex-boss Paul Lambert said Gladon wasn't 'up to speed' for the Championship and the Dutchman didn't feature in a first-team squad under the Scot.

After rejoining Eredivisie side Heracles on a season-long loan deal Gladon, who signed a three-year contract with Wolves last summer, spoke of his delight at returning.

Gladon was critical of long-ball football in England and suggested he struggled to adapt in the country on his own – but said joining Wolves was still an opportunity he couldn't turn down.

"I had some minutes at the beginning of the season, then I had to only train," Gladon told Heracles' official website.

"I'm not 18 anymore. This opportunity I could not refuse and you're asking whether such a chance can again occur in the future.

"If you do not play games and only allowed to train, it is not good to very often be 'home alone'. Luckily (my girlfriend) was there two or three times per month.

"Physically, I have become much stronger. I saw defenders like I've never experienced. It is different football; little structure and long ball almost instantaneously."

Former Sparta Rotterdam striker Gladon, aged 25, scored six goals in 27 appearances for Heracles during his previous season with the club in 2015/16.

Gladon said he didn't want to wait for other offers this summer. He added of his return: "I'm glad to be back. Last year I kept in touch with many people in the club, so it feels like I've been away at all. I hope to play a lot here.

"I've been here always felt at ease and feel incredibly welcome back."
