Wolves move in for £2.3m Idrissa Sylla

Wolves have made a move for Anderlecht striker Idrissa Sylla as they look to bolster their flagging front-line for next season.

Sylla is thought to be available should Anderlecht find a replacement striker.

And the Express & Star understands a bid has been lodged for 25-year-old Guinea international Sylla, who is one of many striker targets Wolves are looking at. Reports elsewhere have suggested the bid is £2.3million.

Sylla is being courted by a host of clubs and is thought to favour a move to England.

The 6ft 2in frontman fits the type of striker Kenny Jackett has long been saying that his team needs.

Predominantly left-footed, the powerful Sylla is good in the air and would be seen as an ideal complement to Wolves' only two other senior strikers, Nouha Dicko and Joe Mason.

He scored seven times in 34 appearances for Anderlecht last season, although only 10 of those were starts.

He also featured in the Belgian club's Europa League campaign, playing twice against Tottenham.

Wolves have a limited transfer budget this summer but still have spare cash from the £10m Benik Afobe sale last January, from which they pocketed £9m.

Sunderland, Burnley, Southampton and Swansea City are also said to have watched Sylla, as well as Italian side Atalanta and Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Sylla made his professional debut with French side Le Mans in 2010 and came to prominence a season later when scoring nine goals in 25 league games for the second-tier club in 2011/12.

He followed that up with five goals in 27 a year later, with eight of those appearances off the bench, before moving to top-flight Belgian side Zulte Waregem for £100,000 in 2013 following Le Mans' relegation.

Nine goals in 37 followed that season, with 18 appearances from the bench, and then another nine in 26 in 2014/15 earned a move to Anderlecht for just over £1m, at a time that Wolves first showed interest in the player but instead swooped for Benik Afobe.

Meanwhile, negotiations with young French striker Nathaël Julan are ongoing. The 19-year-old 6ft 5in forward is almost certain to leave Le Havre this summer but has a host of offers on the table, including from English clubs.

Julan has only played three times for Le Havre but is highly rated and scored 12 times in 22 games for their reserve team last season.
