Twitter posters incorrectly alleged Balotelli stamped or headbutted Wolves midfielder George Saville in a friendly game played at the Reds' Melwood training ground on Merseyside.

A picture was posted on Twitter showing Saville appearing to hold his head, with Liverpool players surrounding Balotelli.

Wolves sources say there was a 50-50 challenge between the pair but that neither hit the ground and that the game, which Liverpool won 1-0, carried on.

Adam Lallana scored the only goal and Saville, as well as fellow new Wolves signing Tommy Rowe, played the full 90 minutes.

Saville was making his full debut for Wolves after signing for around £1millionm from Chelsea in the transfer window.

Balotelli's father Thomas Barwuah lives in Wednesfield, near Wolverhampton.
