Wolves confirm talks over Chris Wood deal

Boss Kenny Jackett confirmed both clubs are in discussions after Wolves' 1-0 win against 10-man Norwich yesterday.

Reports suggested Wolves had made an offer and a fee had been agreed, although talks are not that far advanced.

Leicester are chasing Watford's Troy Deeney and, while Wood's future does not hinge on their pursuit of the former Walsall striker, it will have a bearing.

The Foxes are keen to get new players in before letting others out but Jackett revealed Wolves want former Albion hitman Wood.

He said: "We have made enquires and we have been in dialogue, definitely. I can't deny that but in terms of formalising a deal we are some way off.

"I haven't spoken to Chris, we haven't had that green light yet but it's one we are pursuing.

"I had him on loan at Millwall and he has a good goals-per-game ratio at all of the clubs he's had.

"He has a lot of experience for a 22-year-old as well and good forwards are hard to come by.

"We are always looking, I wouldn't say it's been a necessary tactic over the summer where we would only sign two (Rajiv van La Parra and Tommy Rowe).

"We have a settled group and the dynamics are pretty good so we must be very careful with who and what we do add."

Dave Edwards' second-half winner came just four minutes after Martin Olsson was sent off for a second yellow card when he hauled down the impressive van La Parra.

And Jackett believes the Dutch signing from Heerenveen has a big Wolves future.

He added: "We feel Rajiv has a little bit of hunger and we want him to keep that on what was a good opening day for him.

"The supporters want to see a new signing and when you play at home it's the first glimpse and if you get off to a good start it helps.

"The performance he put in will help him going towards his goal, which is establishing himself at Wolves and help the club be successful."
