Door still open at Wolves for David Davis

Wolves midfielder David Davis was today told he will be welcomed back to the squad if efforts to loan him out break down.

His Molineux career appears to be heading towards the exit door after he was made available by head coach Kenny Jackett, following his exclusion from the squad that travelled to Ireland on pre-season tour.

Barnsley are believed to be interested in the homegrown 23-year-old, although Oakwell sources have since distanced the club from speculation linking Davis to the relegated Championship club.

Davis played in Wolves' Under-21s' 3-0 friendly win away to Worcester last night, but has slipped to sixth choice central midfielder behind Kevin McDonald, Tommy Rowe, Lee Evans, Jack Price and Dave Edwards, while 18-year-old Declan Weeks was called up to take the injured Rowe's place on tour.

But Jackett has left the door open for the Smethwick-born ballwinner, saying: "If it (speculation) does blow over, I've got no problems with him coming back into the group.

"Should we get another injury in midfield next week, he's an experienced player now and has a point to prove.

"So if it does work out that way then fine, but he's not a first choice and if there's a move that's right for us and the player, he'd be allowed to go.

"There has been interest over the last few days but it's been quiet at the moment. Speaking to Kevin Thelwell yesterday, there's been nothing concrete."

Jackett accepts a loan move is the best solution for the club and the player, however.

"Yes I do – I think it would be a positive move for both parties because he needs to get playing some football as he's behind four other midfield players as we stand, and potentially then Dave Edwards as well," said the boss.

Meanwhile, Jackett will again hand 22 players game time in tonight's final friendly in Ireland when they visit Bohemians in Dublin.

"We'll certainly play everyone at some stage of it," he said.

Two more Wolves games have been moved to accommodate Sky TV.

The trip to Reading has been moved to Sunday September 28 (1.15pm) and the game at Derby has been moved to 12.15pm on Saturday, November 8, rather than 3pm.
