Flying the flag for victorious Wolves

Wyre Forest | News | Published:

A jubilant landlord has put her shirt on Wolves – by covering her pub in a giant copy of the team's strip in celebration of their league triumph.

The 40ft by 20ft banner featuring the club's emblem and the word 'champions' swamps the front of The Old Waggon and Horses in Bewdley.

It left nobody in any doubt about how devoted Denise Easton felt when the club thrashed Carlisle 3-0 at Molineux in their final game of the season on Saturday.

The win took the League One champions to 103 points, the third highest ever recorded in that league with celebrations erupting all over the city – including turning a swimming pool gold.

Delighted Denise, who has run the pub for 29 years, said: "Being a Wolves fan of late there hasn't been much to celebrate, so here's our chance and we're doing it in style.

"People are loving it. We are getting drivers pressing their horns as they pass and many people stopping by to take pictures. We're also getting the odd rival fan coming in and having a joke with us about it.

"We do have many regulars who are Wolves fans, but we also have fans of other clubs. It's all good fun."

Mrs Eaton can only see her team several times a season due to work at the pub and explained: "I go when I can. It has been a great year, it really feels like we are on the up again."

The banner was made by Gino Ruffinato, from Kidderminster-firm MGSports
