Several clubs interested in Wolves target Leon Clarke

Head coach Kenny Jackett stressed there are several clubs competing for 28-year-old Clarke, who submitted a transfer request on Monday.

Coventry want a replacement and out-of-favour Sigurdarson is seen as a possible solution in a cash-plus-player swap.

Jackett still refused to confirm Wolves have bid for their former forward, despite Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley revealing they have received an offer.

But Jackett admitted: "I'd suggest several clubs have made strides towards bidding for Leon Clarke and that the top scorer in League One would attract various interest rather than one club.

"He's got 18 goals this season and he's attracting a lot of attention in the football world."

But Jackett insisted Wolves haven't tried to persuade Clarke to leave.

"That's nothing to do with us," he said. "I'm not confirming we've bid."

Wolves have renewed their interest in Leicester's Martyn Waghorn and their pursuit of Celtic attacking midfielder Callum McGregor has been confirmed amid numerous targets.

"We're not waiting on one person," said Jackett. "We've made strong enquiries about various players.

"But until a bid is accepted, it's unprofessional to name them."

But it looks like their chances of landing McGregor this month are slim unless Celtic can be tempted with a permanent offer.

The Hoops are happy for him to extend his loan at Notts County.

The 20-year-old's agent Kenny Moyes said: "There are a number of teams interested, including Wolves. But there's no firm offer."

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said: "He's been linked with Wolves and plenty of clubs, but we'd like to bring him back in the summer.

"The reports coming back are very positive and we're quite happy with the situation there."

Meanwhile, Wolves are sweating on keeper Aaron McCarey tomorrow at Crawley – meaning Wayne Hennessey could be recalled.

"Aaron has been out with a back injury this week, so we'll see how he is," said Jackett.

"I'd have no problems with playing Wayne."

Ethan Ebanks-Landell is fit but Matt Doherty will play 90 minutes against Chelsea on Monday at Telford and Jack Price will be available next Saturday against Bristol City.
