Solbakken starts interviewing candidates for coaching job

Stale Solbakken today revealed he has begun interviewing for the Wolves coaching vacancy. Solbakken has already said first-team coach Johan Lange may step up to assistant manager following the recent departure of Terry Connor.

He has all-but ruled out the high-profile appointment wanted by some fans, although he suggested the new man will have to work on his own initiative.

"The search has started," said Solbakken "I've had a couple of interviews with people and we will see what happens."

Popular calls have been for former Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins, while others have mentioned Tottenham coach Joe Jordan. Ex-Liverpool and Bolton coach Sammy Lee has also been linked, along with former long-serving Villa reserve team boss Kevin MacDonald.

Wolves seem unlikely to appoint a high-profile figure as members of their backroom staff do not command the sort of salaries earned by the bigger names, and as a Championship club, that policy will not change.

Asked if he was likely to opt for the likes of Wilkins or Jordan, Solbakken said: "I haven't spoken to one of them!

"For me it's important that it's the right man, with the right philosophy that can do the things I want on the pitch without having to listen to me all the time.

"I want him to come in and carry some of the workload, and also ensure that we're a good trio with me, him and Johan.

"When I talk to them I must have the feeling that as human beings we're close together. I have to have the feeling that his ideas are right on the pitch."
