Captain Roger Johnson today led a chorus of Wolves players in condemning the "disgraceful" treatment of Karl Henry at the Newcastle game.

Wolves players who interpreted the sarcastic cheering from home fans that greeted Henry's substitution in the 2-1 defeat as being directed at the midfielder were dismayed.

Johnson, who said he has never encountered such abuse, only feels able to talk about it now, six days after the event and said: "I thought it was a disgrace, disgusting. It stinks.

"If the fans want to have a bitch at me about it then fine, but I thought they were bang out of order. There are no reasons for that and it should never happen. And for someone who's served this club so well for so long and been captain, it was undeserved. It's not going to help anyone."
