David Edwards wants more goals

Wolves midfielder David Edwards has targeted more goals after improving his timing in front of goal.

The 24-year-old was the match-winner against Manchester City last weekend, after ending Wolves' eight-game winless run in the Premier League with his first goal in 13 months.

Now Edwards is planning to celebrate this first appearance at Old Trafford tomorrow by doing the same to City's rivals United.

The hard-running midfielder is renowned for his ability to arrive late in the box but his record of six strikes in 80 league games for the club suggests he hasn't always got the rewards for his efforts to join the attack.

But now Edwards is getting regular football again, the Wales international is confident he can step up his conversion rate.

He said: "Hopefully I'm getting my timing right now and arriving in the box at the right times.

"It comes naturally in terms of getting into the box but you lose a bit of the timing when you've not played much and I think I've got that back.

"If I get more chances I'm more confident I'll put them away. I've had a few chances before last Saturday.

"I had one against Villa and then a header at Chelsea and a couple more headers against City."

On a personal level, Edwards had arguably his best game for Wolves in Saturday's 2-1 win against City.

He said: "I think it was probably one of my best Premier League games and the goal always tops it off.

"I feel like I'm starting to get back to that sort of form now having had a run of five games in the team."

Wolves haven't won at Old Trafford since February 1980 but Edwards believes that after the so-called big boys suffered several upsets already, McCarthy's men are more than capable of toppling them.

He said: "I think the gap between the top teams and the rest has closed a bit and I believe we can go to Old Trafford with a lot of confidence."
