Sam Johnstone

The goalkeeper’s kicking was a bit iffy at times - perhaps understandably on a horribly wet pitch. But Johnstone’s shot-stopping was once again excellent with the glovesman making impressive saves to deny Nelson Semedo, Adama Traore and Fabio Silva.

Semi Ajayi

A somewhat nervy display from the Nigerian international whose hesitancy led to Semedo’s big chance in the first-half. Ajayi’s pace was crucial to Albion as it allowed him to give Darnell Furlong cover up against the lightning-quick Traore. Overall, though, he wasn’t as assured as normal.

Kyle Bartley

The centre-back was hugely unfortunate to see his clearance cannon off Silva and into the net. And in the main, this was another steady showing from the 29-year-old who consistently headed away dangerous balls into the Albion box.

Dara O’Shea

The Republic of Ireland international was performing fine before being pulled off in the 33rd minute with Allardyce not happy with the 3-5-2 system he started with. Matt Phillips replaced him in a move that allowed the Baggies to switch to a 4-3-3 formation.

Unlucky 6

Darnell Furlong

Initially deployed as a wing-back, Furlong - by and large - did well coping with the threat of Traore and made a couple of well-timed challenges on the Spaniard. But he would have liked to offer a bit more going forward.

Conor Townsend

The full-back delivered a wonderful cross which Mbaye Diagne duly headed home. But just moments before, Townsend really should have scored himself when Pereira found him unmarked in the box but he failed to beat Rui Patricio. Defensively sound.

Okay Yokuslu

The Turkish international has been outstanding for the Baggies ever since arriving on loan from Celta Vigo. Here he broke up play well and managed to get himself about the pitch. But he wasn’t as instrumental as usual.

Quiet-ish 6

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Almost anonymous in the first-half, Maitland-Niles - as is often the case - grew in stature the longer the game went on. His energy ensured he won some important battles in midfield. But yet again he offered little going forward and needs to improve in that area.

Industrious 5

Conor Gallagher

The midfielder really should have scored when Matt Phillips sent in a low cross that he simply had to tap home. Gallagher’s shot, though, lacked conviction and was the perfect height for Patricio who palmed it away. That summed up the midfielder’s evening with Gallagher showing bundles of energy but needing more composure.

Matheus Pereira

Albion’s talisman did his best to try and make things happen. His clever ball to Townsend really should have led to an assist. But this wasn’t the 24-year-old’s night with Pereira unable to have the impact he had at Villa last time out.

Mbaye Diagne

On the wet surface, the striker struggled to hold the ball up at times. But the movement and finish for his goal were excellent - with Diagne again showing he can cause any Premier League defence problems.

Matt Phillips (for O’Shea 33)

His introduction improved Albion with Phillips direct and eager to get at Wolves every time he got on the ball. Also sent in a wonderful cross which Gallagher should have tapped home.
