David Button

One uneasy first-half moment aside, this was a steady performance from a goalkeeper making his first Premier League appearance in nearly two years.

Steady 7

Dara O’Shea

Found himself at right-back, a position where he had previously struggled. Had his hands full with the lively Neto but stuck to his task well and played his part in an excellent second half defensive effort.

Determined 7

Semi Ajayi

Will be frustrated with his failure to clear the ball in the build up to Wolves’ second goal. Yet otherwise this was a strong performance from the centre-back. Scored his third in five games.

Strong 7

Kyle Bartley

Showed leadership with the way he marshalled Albion’s defence and desire in his play. Sam Allardyce had called for players to stand up and be counted. Bartley certainly did that.

Leader 8

Kieran Gibbs

Had the unenviable task of dealing with Adama Traore but other than one second half run, which saw the Wolves winger reach the byline, he marshalled him well. Showed plenty of effort.

Effort 6

Robert Snodgrass

The Scot didn’t score or set up a goal on his debut but his impact was immediate. Snodgrass provides an element of savvy previously lacking and his experience should be invaluable.

Smart 7

Romaine Sawyers

The midfielder combined flashes of quality with lapses of concentration in what was, on an individual level, a mixed performance. But his running for the team was essential.

Busy 6

Jake Livermore

The Albion captain was culpable after missing a header in the build up to Wolves’ second goal, in what was his first Premier League match since being sent-off against Villa. But he showed great heart throughout.

Heart 7

Kamil Grosicki

This was the Poland international’s first Premier League start in more than three-and-a-half years and there were times when he looked off the pace. Always willing to help, however, against the swift Traore.

Willing 6

Matheus Pereira

The Brazilian bagged his first Premier League goals since September, both coolly dispatched from the penalty spot. More impressive was his workrate.

Improved 7

Callum Robinson

Responsible for winning both penalties by beating defenders to the ball. Saw one close range effort saved by Rui Patricio and sent another just wide of the post.

Relentless 7

Substitutes

Hal Robson-Kanu 6 (for Grosicki 69), Darnell Furlong N/A (for Pereira, 83)
