We rate the Albion players following their loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Sam Johnstone

The keeper made a string of fantastic saves. But the one in the 16th minute to keep out Anthony Martial really was exceptional.

Up against his former side, Johnstone deserved to leave Old Trafford with a result. The rule that allowed Bruno Fernandes to retake his saved penalty is, quite simply, ridiculous.

Incredible 9

Darnell Furlong

Another display full of attacking endeavour and defensive nous from the 25-year-old who was up against Marcus Rashford and Alex Telles.

Furlong has really showed he is a Premier League wing-back in recent weeks and was really unlucky with United’s penalty.

Positive 7

Semi Ajayi

His pace really was eye-catching with Ajayi using that speed to brilliantly sweep things up in Albion’s back three. Very, very, impressive.

Dominant 8

Branislav Ivanovic

Strong in the air, composed on the ball. But the biggest compliment you can pay Ivanvoic is that he makes everyone around him better.

Influential 7

Kyle Bartley

A towering display from the defender who showed his bravery by blocking a shot from Harry Maguire with his face.

Came so close to opening the scoring with a clever header from a corner.

Courageous 7

Conor Townsend

Another excellent display from the left wing-back who, like Furlong, is proving he is good enough both offensively and defensively for the Premier League.

Townsend did have one big chance to score, though, and really should have netted with a low drive from just six-yards out.

Consistent 8

Conor Gallagher

The best central midfielder on the pitch. Gallagher was energetic, won possession countless times and was also bright on the ball. He also won a penalty...

Fantastic 9

Romaine Sawyers

Back in the side with Jake Livermore ruled out with COVID-19, Sawyers showed his battling qualities and kept the ball ticking over.

Steady 7

Matheus Pereira

Deployed in the central midfield three, Pereira worked hard and did everything he could try and add some spark to Albion’s attacking play.

The nutmeg that led to a chance for Karlan Grant was exquisite.

Cheeky 7

Grady Diangana

Deployed in a front two with Grant, Diangana struggled to adapt to his new role. Subbed in the second half for Callum Robinson.

Quiet 5

Karlan Grant

Didn’t impact the game as he would have liked but he still forced David de Gea into an excellent save with a low drive.

Perhaps should have gone down when his shirt was tugged by Maguire in the box.

Frustrated 6

Substitutes

Callum Robinson (for Diangana) 7, Hal Robson-Kanu (for Grant) 6, Filip Krovinovic (for Ivanovic) 6. Subs not used: Button, O’Shea, Phillips, Harper.
