But while the operation was successful, it is not yet known how long the forward will be sidelined for.

Albion are hopeful the injury will keep the Wales international sidelined for weeks rather than months.

But it remains too early to put an exact date on when he will be able to return.

Robson-Kanu will instead undergo regular checks to see how his arm is recovering before then being given the green light to return to training.

Head coach Slaven Bilic revealed the 31-year-old obtained the injury after being stood on by a Southampton player on Sunday.

Robson-Kanu played on for 20 minutes despite the injury. But it did force him to withdraw from the Wales squad for their friendly against England and their Nations League games against Bulgaria and the Republic of Ireland.

Boss Bilic has stressed throughout the transfer window he is eager to sign another striker.

The club remains in talks with Huddersfield over a move for Karlan Grant – who is the Croatian’s number one target.

They have also held talks with Bournemouth over Josh King, while Watford duo Andre Gray and Troy Deeney are alternative options.

Robson-Kanu’s injury, though, won’t impact the futures of Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore, the Express & Star understands.

Albion are believed to be willing to listen to offers for both players, with Austin having held talks with Derby.

It is understood, though, the former Burnley man is eager to stay and fight for his place at The Hawthorns.

Zohore is reported to be interesting Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough.

But even with Robson-Kanu injured, the Baggies are still believed to be willing to offload the duo.
