Slaven Bilic is an admirer of the 36-year-old, who is available for free having left Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The Croatian attempted to sign the versatile defender during his time at West Ham, and with Albion's Premier League season set to start on Sunday - is keen to seal a deal for the experienced Premier League winner.

It's reported that a deal would likely keep Ivanovic at the club for the season - adding some much needed top flight nous to the side and also providing an option across the back four.

Albion have already signed centre back Cedric Kipre ahead of the start of the season, and have since followed that up by bringing back Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson following their successful loan spells at the club.

David Button has also joined the club from Brighton, although this deal would represent a different type of signing - with his experience and leadership likely to be a valuable asset.

The Baggies lost many years of top flight experience, with Chris Brunt joining Bristol City and Gareth Barry announcing his retirement following the end of last season.

Ivanovic racked up more than 370 appearances for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, scoring 34 times for the club.

Meanwhile, Bilic has confirmed he is in the market to sign a new striker whilst he also still wants Filip Krovinovic to return to the club.

The Baggies have signed Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson following successful loan spells at The Hawthorns last season.

And Bilic reaffirmed his desire to also see Krovinovic return.

"We talk about needing a striker that will give us something we don’t have from our other players, good players, in that position," the head coach said.

"We’re not hiding it. It’s very difficult even when you have the money but in our situation we don’t have the kind of support that would make it easier to find these players.

"We wanted to try to keep together the team from last season and then add three or four players not to improve the quantity but the quality.

“We have done everything but Filip. And we will try and get a few more players."
