Head of fitness Nick Davies: West Brom attitude spot on
Head of fitness and performance Nick Davies has praised the attitude of Albion’s players as they continue to train in isolation at home.
Each member of the Baggies squad is having to work at home in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus and ease the pressure on the NHS.
Keeping around 30 professional footballers in peak condition is not easy when working remotely.
But that is the task for Davies and his team, with each squad member working to their own tailored programme which is updated each week.
The players have also been given nutritional advice and meal plans as well as equipment such as bikes and weights.
“The attitude of the players has been nothing short of exceptional during these unprecedented times,” Davies said.
“Not only from how they have performed the programmes and reported back their data, but more importantly how they have had a genuine interest and care for how everybody at the club is coping.
"Those strong bonds are clearly evident to us all.
“On a regular training day the players and staff love going into work – that is a core trait for any high performing environment.
“This enforced halt to training and games comes with a dramatic change to routine.
“We are acutely aware that we must ensure lines of communication remain open to maintain the incredible togetherness Slaven (Bilic) has cultivated at the club.”
With the players having such forged a close bond during the season, Davies says it’s vital they stay connected while they are training at home.
“The players have their own WhatsApp groups and there are dedicated groups for nutrition, training and general information,” he continued.
“We have some form of contact with each player daily.
"Obviously we are ensuring the work is being undertaken appropriately but more importantly that they and their families are safe."
