Each member of the Baggies squad is currently training at home as the country continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

It is not yet known when matches will return or in what format with a ‘festival of football’ one of the ideas put forward to ensure the 2019-20 campaign can be completed. Davies, though, says Albion’s players are working to be ready for all eventualities.

“We are not just working on staying fit,” the performance and fitness expert said.

“Some people are likening this to an off-season but we don’t see it like that.

“This is a unique time which needs to be considered and carefully managed as we will need to be ready when we do return.

“The games period on return is likely to be incredibly intense. With this in mind, we need to keep the players ‘football-fit’ to hit the ground running.

“Planning for an unknown start date is complex but we must ensure we maintain a robust group of players. We are leaving no stone unturned as we strive to balance freshening the squad up physically and mentally while maintaining a readiness to perform.”

With it not yet known when football will return, there is a chance Albion’s players will undergo a mini pre-season when they do report back for training.

So Davies has made it clear to the squad they must remain ultra professional while training at home.

“It (a mini pre-season) will obviously be dependent on how long this period continues,” he said. “But we are all in agreement that we must have a readiness for whatever is thrown at us.”
