Deadline day: Two in – and two stay at West Brom

A frantic transfer deadline day saw Albion sign Kamil Grosicki and Lee Peltier – while Chris Brunt and Nathan Ferguson remained at The Hawthorns.

After snapping up Callum Robinson from Sheffield United on Wednesday, Polish winger Grosicki became the Baggies’ second January signing yesterday morning when he arrived in a £800,000 deal from Hull.

But the club’s remaining business was all completed just moments before the 11pm deadline with right-back Peltier joining after he and Cardiff agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.

Arguably the most drama, though, centred on the players who remained at The Hawthorns.

Club legend Chris Brunt held talks with Stoke in a move that would have seen him team up with Michael O’Neill – who he played under for Northern Ireland.

But despite the move looking set to happen, it did not go through – with it unclear if it was Stoke or Brunt who pulled the plug.

Equally spectacular was the news Ferguson’s move to Crystal Palace collapsed at the 11th hour.

The 19-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, had been all set to move to London after rejecting the offer of a new five-year deal at The Hawthorns.

But during his Palace medical, the Premier League outfit picked up a problem with his knee.

And that ultimately led to the move collapsing.

Earlier in the day, head coach Slaven Bilic revealed Albion had spoken to Palace about selling Ferguson, but re-signing him on loan for the rest of the season.

But the player’s representatives – not the player himself – refused the offer despite Palace being keen.

One player who did leave The Hawthorns was Chris Willock.

The winger didn’t make a single first-team appearance for the Baggies despite joining on loan from Benfica in the summer.

He will now spend the remainder of the season on loan at Huddersfield from the Portuguese side.

Albion also missed out on making one more addition before the deadline – with that player believed to be Watford’s Domingos Quina.

It is understood central midfielder Quina was a target if Brunt had moved to Stoke.
