The Baggies, who signed attacker Callum Robinson on loan from Sheffield United yesterday, have had a bid – believed to be of £800,000 – accepted for Poland international Grosicki.

But head coach Slaven Bilic is also weighing up whether to sign a defender, with Nathan Ferguson set to join Crystal Palace in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £4million.

The academy graduate was set to be out of contract this summer, having rejected the offer of a new five-year deal, leaving him open to a move abroad for a nominal fee.

However, Palace have stolen a march on their rivals as they search for a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who moved to Manchester United last summer.

Albion have options at full-back, with Dara O’Shea having impressed in recent weeks, but Kieran Gibbs has endured an injury-blighted campaign – leaving Bilic to debate whether he needs more cover in that area. Swedish international left-back Martin Olsson remains on trial and is an option.

The Baggies are very confident of signing another forward in addition to Robinson, with wideman Grosicki – capped 73 times by Poland – moving to the head of the queue.

Dinamo Zagreb’s Mislav Orsic and QPR’s Bright Osayi-Samuel have been under consideration, though reports linking Albion with a £10million permanent deal for Grady Diangana are wide of the mark.

Instead, Grosicki appears to be Albion’s preferred target – with Celtic having also been linked with the Hull man.

The 31-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is best utilised on the left wing but also capable on the right.

He has managed eight goals and four assists in 30 appearances this season for Hull, having joined the Tigers from Stade Rennais in 2017.

His 73 caps for Poland have taken him to two European Championships, as well as the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, new boy Robinson is targeting promotion with Albion after completing his loan move yesterday.

He said: “The lads have been doing great so far this season, it’s going to be an exciting time hopefully and I can help towards that promotion push.

“The main thing is scoring goals, assisting and stuff like that. That’s what I enjoy doing.

“I like playing on the wing, I like playing up front. Anywhere in the attacking positions where I can affect the game and get into the right areas.”
