The Baggies continued their unbeaten start to the Championship season by securing a 4-2 win over over Huddersfield yesterday.

But they were given a fright by the Terriers who have won just once in the last 10 months. Sloppy Albion defending meant they had to come from behind not once, but twice before they eventually went on to win the game.

And that means Bilic’s side are yet to keep a clean sheet this season. “We have to make it so teams have to do something extraordinary to score,” the Croatian said. “We have to work on it, to improve.

“I wouldn’t say I’m concerned.

“Concerned means I wouldn’t be sleeping because of it.

“Clean sheets aren’t just defending well – there’s an element of luck, the game is 90 minutes, the opposition is strong.

“I would love us to close down better.

“To be better on 50-50s, to be better on second balls.

“It’s easy to talk, but if we do that it will put us in a better position to keep a clean sheet.

“I’m not going to be obsessed with clean sheets, clean sheets, clean sheets. Let’s improve on those things, and then the clean sheets will come.”

Matt Phillips netted a brace in the victory over Danny Cowley’s side.

And Bilic was delighted with his winger’s performance.

“I’m delighted with his goals, and his performance,” he added. “After his second goal, I saw that he was a little bit out of breath in trying to track their runner.

“I’d love him to score a hat-trick, but for us it’s more important to manage the game than for a player to score a hat-trick.

“He did really well.”
