The Scottish champions have brought Hammond in on an initial short-term contract for the summer transfer window.

He is replacing Lee Congerton, who followed Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City.

A statement on Celtic's website said: "Nick is highly regarded across football having held director of football and technical director positions at Reading and West Bromwich Albion respectively.

"Nick's knowledge, expertise and experience will be invaluable as he assists in the club’s recruitment across the forthcoming period.

"The club has known Nick for some time and we are delighted that he is joining Celtic."

Hammond has been out of work since Albion sacked him in April 2018 following his two-year stint at The Hawthorns.

He lost his job shortly after chairman John Williams and chief executive Martin Goodman following the disastrous appointment of head coach Alan Pardew.
