Monk has emerged as potential candidate for the Baggies head coach role which will be available in the summer.

But the former Swansea, Leeds and Middlesbrough boss, who has guided Blues to safety despite a nine-point deduction from the EFL, publicly insists he wants to stay at St Andrew’s.

“We are back in silly season again, summer rumours,” said Monk. “I have told you from the start I don’t deal with speculation. “I don’t want to leave here, I want to make sure I can help this club move forward.

“My concentration is getting to the bottom of that financial understanding, that side of it runs a lot deeper than what I was first made aware of when I first came in here but my intention from the start – and still is at this point, is to be here and help this club move forward.

“We have just put a whole year’s worth of work in, I want to be able to build and move that forward.”

Albion sacked Darren Moore in March and following a few weeks of uncertainty, handed the reins to caretaker boss Jimmy Shan for the rest of the season.
