Ally Robertson: Forget the uncertainty at West Brom and back the boys

It feels as though West Bromwich Albion are all over the place at the minute.

One week Alex Neil is coming in as manager. Now Michael Appleton and Steven Reid have arrived to assist James Shan for the final two league games plus the play-offs.

But for me, a club as big as Albion, a club as great Albion shouldn’t be in this position.

We are still in with a great chance of getting back into the Premier League.

We are set for our most important run of games for a long, long time.

But there are still a lot of questions about what exactly is going on behind the scenes.

If we win the play-offs, a lot of work has to be done to find a manager that can keep us in the top flight.

If we don’t win the play-offs, a lot of work has to be done to find a manager who can get us up next year.

And it’s very strange to have that hanging over you.

We are in the situation we are in though, and the important thing is we give Shan, Appleton and Reid our full support because, in football, momentum is so important.

What I’m desperate to see now is us entering the play-offs having beaten Rotherham and Derby.

I want to see good football, I don’t want to see us over complicating things and over playing out of defence.

I want to see a strong, well-balanced, attack-minded team that goes out and really causes the opposition problems.

And then we can take that into the play-offs and what is almost certain to be a clash with Villa.

Regular readers of this column will know my thoughts on Villa. I hate them. But they have won their last 10 games. Six weeks ago I never thought that would have happened in a million years.

We need to make sure when it comes to those play-off games we are just as confident as they are.

And by winning these last two matches, it also guarantees we will play the second leg at home. For me, that is so important. It’s a huge advantage to go into that second leg on home turf and knowing exactly what you have to do.

Now it really is all about the final push.

It’s been a strange season with a lot of ups and downs and a lot of uncertainty behind the scenes.

But at the start of the campaign you’d have to accept finishing in the play-offs, if it was offered to you.

Now we all have to give 100 per cent and then really hit these play-offs – and Villa – head on.
