West Brom fans hit back in race row with banner at Griffin Park

Albion fans hit back at claims Darren Moore's sacking had a 'subconsciously racial' element to it with a banner at Griffin Park today.

Following Moore's sacking last weekend, Talksport radio host Adrian Durham claimed part of the reason was that Albion's board couldn't see a black manager being successful.

Former Baggies players Kevin Campbell and Carlton Palmer agreed with Durham.

But a number of Albion fans disagreed with the notion, and today, unfurled a banner in the away end at Griffin Park.

It read: "This club looks at the badge on the chest, not colour of the skin."

Accompanying the words was an image of Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.

Albion's 'Three Degrees' were pioneers who broke down barriers for black footballers in the 1970s.

Moore was one of the country's most high profile BAME (black and ethnic minority) managers before his sacking, alongside Brighton boss Chris Hughton and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Albion have won both games since his sacking, and conceded no goals after a return to a more pragmatic style.
