The 19-year-old centre-back, who is currently on loan at League Two Exeter City, helped the Grecians progress to the second round without conceding a goal in three group stage games.

O’Shea was a dominant figure at the back against Yeovil Town, West Ham’s under-21s, and Bristol Rovers.

He has subsequently worked his way into the league team, and has started the last three matches in League Two.

“It feels great,” said O’Shea. “It’s nice to be recognised for your performances.

“I think I defended well from the fact that we kept three clean sheets, but I think as a team we defended really well.”

The Irishman, who joined Albion at the age of 16 from Dublin club St Kevin’s Boys, helped Hereford win the Southern Premier League title while on loan last season.

His step up to League Two has impressed Albion loans Manager Deon Burton.

“I’ve watched him in his last three or four games and he’s been very impressive,” said Burton. “I know that everyone at Exeter is delighted with his contribution so far.

“He started the season only really playing in the cup games, but is now playing week-in, week-out in the league. So credit to him and hopefully he keeps up the good work.”
