Hal Robson-Kanu: West Brom need balance

Hal Robson-Kanu believes the Baggies have the best attacking force in the Championship – but that alone won’t be enough to win promotion.

The 29-year-old, who impressed against Leeds United last time out, wishes it was possible to fit all of Albion’s strikers on the pitch at the same time.

But Robson-Kanu acknowledged that Albion need to shore up as a team in order to bounce back to the Premier League.

The Baggies may be the highest scorers in the top four divisions, but they’ve also conceded 25 league goals, the most in the top half.

“We’ve got a front four, five or six where all the players can comfortably play,” said Hal Robson-Kanu, after the Leeds game. “It would be nice to get us all on the pitch at once!

“I think we’ve got the best attack, but you don’t win a Championship with just an attacking force. It starts off at the back and involves the whole team.”

Robson-Kanu staked a claim for a place in the starting line-up with an impressive performance and goal against Leeds.

“We’ve obviously got a very good squad here,” he said. “We’ve all got top-level experience, we’ve all got strong characters and want to win games.

“For me personally, it was just about being patient. I’d made an impact coming off the bench a number of times. It was really nice to get a start and show what I can do.”

The striker was put in the line-up to provide a physical presence up front in a new 4-3-3 system.

Robson-Kanu believes it’s a formation that could work well in the future and he reckons head coach Darren Moore deserves credit for playing it.

“That’s down to him tactically as a manager,” said the striker. “We’re not just looking to go into games blind.

“We can see how we can affect the opposition and that comes from the staff.

“They give it to the players and then it’s down to us to implement it.

“It’s an interesting shape because there’s a lot of rotation within it. There’s a freedom to pop up in attacking areas.

“For us, it’s about that consistency now and we’ll take each game as it comes.”
