Hal Robson-Kanu: West Brom will build on 'statement' win over Leeds

Hal Robson-Kanu believes Albion’s ‘statement’ win over Leeds will propel them forward for the rest of the season.

The striker, who starred in Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing over Marcelo Bielsa’s team, reckons that victory will help the Baggies rediscover lost momentum.

Albion had drifted into mid-table after picking up one point from four games, but victory over Leeds moved them back into the top six and left them just three points off the automatic promotion spots.

“For us it’s about continuing to get momentum,” said Robson-Kanu. “It dropped off in recent games, but now I think the statement on Saturday should propel us and we’re fully focused on replicating that.

“Those games (against promotion rivals) are going to be massive this season, but the biggest thing is this league is consistency.

“That’s what we had at the start of the season and that’s what we’re looking to get back to.”

Albion have won all three of their games heading into an international break this season, but on the first two occasions, they struggled to rediscover their form on their first game back.

This time, Darren Moore has not given his players a week off, and demanded all those not on international duty come in for training this week.

“The break has positives and negatives,” said Robson-Kanu, who will be training with the Baggies this week after calling time on his Wales career earlier this year.

“It’s what you do in that break. We’ll be fully focused, the staff here – Graeme (Jones), the gaffer, and Jimmy (Shan) – we’ll work behind the scenes as we have done the last couple of weeks to get back to this level.

“We’ll be looking to replicate that (performance) again when we get back.”

Saturday was Robson-Kanu’s first start in the league since the opening day, and he was delighted to take his chance when it came.

“That’s part and parcel of football,” he said. “Every player has a period when they don’t play as much as they would like.

“It’s about working hard behind the scenes and that’s what I’ve done in the last month. I got my opportunity and took it.”
