Darren Moore hails Kieran Gibbs' form for West Brom
Darren Moore was surprised by the lack of bids for left-back Kieran Gibbs in the summer.
Gibbs was linked with a move to Serie A side Torino during the international break, but the Baggies did not receive any concrete offers that tempted them to sell.
A former Champions League player with Arsenal, the 29-year-old joined Albion last summer for £5million.
Although his first season at The Hawthorns ended in relegation, he has impressed this season since being moved to a left wing-back role.
Gibbs only scored six times for Arsenal in his 12 years at The Gunners, but he’s already bagged two for the Baggies this season.
Moore had to fend off interest in several of his players over summer, including Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson, but he was surprised there were less offers for Gibbs.
“He’s a very good player,” said Moore, before the international break. “We know what his professional career to date is and where he’s been so he’s a proven good player.
“What others deem not good enough for them is certainly good enough for West Bromwich Albion and long may Kieran continue to show that good form that he’s in at the moment and to keep that consistency going.”
Gibbs was always an attacking full-back, but Moore is delighted with how well he has slipped into the wing-back role he’s now being asked to fulfil.
“He’s a great player, Kieran, and he’s a player that, with what we’re doing here, he’s bought into it and he’s shown his adaptability,” he said.
“As an individual he’s enjoying his football so long may that continue.”
Gibbs is Albion’s fifth Beatle behind the Fab Four of Harvey Barnes, Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle and Matt Phillips.
“We have shared goals all over the pitch,” said Moore. “Hopefully the opposition have got a few to worry about.
“We just focus on what we’re about. You’ve seen enough of Championship football, it’s relentless.”
