Darren Moore does not regret ringing the changes in the Carabao Cup - despite watching his side go down by three goals to Crystal Palace.

The Baggies boss made 10 changes to his line-up, and handed starts to a mixture of fringe players and youngsters.

But his second string were second best to Roy Hodgson's visitors and were undone by an Andros Townsend brace that sandwiched a Patrick Van Aanholt goal.

Despite the disappointing result, Moore says he learned a lot about his squad from the defeat.

"I don't regret my line up," he said. "We've got a squad here, we made 10 changes tonight and we brought them in.

"They've done well in previous rounds. For large parts of the game they were still there for the game.

"We learned a lot. I'll look back on the video and analyse it over the next 24 hours, after that we've got another tough fixture on Saturday [against Preston North End]."

Albion were toothless up front and jittery at the back, particularly after Ahmed Hegazi was substituted off on the hour mark.

But Moore was pleased with two experienced playmakers who each played the full game.

"The pleasing thing for me was to see James Morrison and Wes Hoolahan play 90 minutes," he said.

"Young Tosin Adarabioyo played 90 minutes and came through that. For the long season ahead, I'm pleased with that.

"It was a mixed game, some good parts and not so good parts. The first goal was a wonderstrikle.

"That made us chase the game. There were some good points up until they scored their second goal and then it became a bit stretched.

"We could have been more cutting in the final third where our final detail let us down."

Sam Field played at left centre-back again but the youngster struggled against Premier League opposition.

"I'm learning about my team," said Moore. "We're trying to develop it and move forward.

"Do I see him playing there permanently? No. I see him playing there as an experiment. We'll continue to look at it."

Moore was also coy on the ongoing trial for former Wolves winger Bakary Sako.

Albion are currently in negotiations with Sako's representatives about a potential short-term deal, like Hoolahan has been given.

"At the moment I've not got much news," said Moore. "He's still training with us."
