West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez takes part in 5km colour dash to help raise money for hospice

Jay Rodriguez swapped his usual blue and white stripes for something more multi-coloured when he both started and took part in the Burnley Colour Dash at the weekend.

Rodriguez is an ambassador for Pendleside Hospice, a charity based in his hometown of Burnley that enhances quality of life for people with life-limiting illness.

And a day after helping Albion beat Stoke 2-1 at The Hawthorns, the Baggies striker and his family took part in the 5km run in Burnley’s Thompson Park.

Rodriguez, who sounded a klaxon to get the colour run underway and spoke to fundraisers both during and afterwards, was joined by more than 600 other people who raised more than £20,000 for the Hospice.

Sammi Graham, the hospice’s head of events, said: “Already the colour dash has raised more than £20,000 but that could rise even higher when all of the monies come in.

“Anyone who wants to hand in sponsorship money can do so by going to www.pendleside.org.uk and clicking on the ‘donate’ button."

During the 5km run, all participants are covered in coloured powder as they pass through blast stations around the route.
