We spoke with Rob Atkinson, Leeds United writer and blogger, to get a proper look at the Baggies' new defender, who spent a season on loan in Yorkshire.

See what he had to say below...

What can West Brom fans expect to see from Kyle Bartley this season?

At his best, Kyle is a defensive colossus, especially when paired with another strong centre back.

A threat up front too, effective in both boxes, a re-assuring presence in any team at this level.

Obviously he has a big affinity among Leeds fans, how come no permanent deal happened at Elland Road?

My best guess is that Bielsa wanted something different in his defensive line.

We seemed hot on Kyle’s trail until Bielsa was appointed, then it all went quiet.

What are Bartley's strengths and weaknesses?

His strengths are that he's good and solid in the air and on the ground, plus he's a good organiser.

In terms of a weakness, there are worries about his injuries.

How is he in terms of fitness? Will he spend much time on the treatment table?

I’d have to say this is likely, though for Bartley’s sake, obviously I hope not.

Bartley's obviously played the majority of his football in the second tier, why is this? And is he capable of cutting it in the Premier League next season (should Albion go up)?

I think Kyle is an excellent defender at Championship level, possibly lacking in that little bit extra to make him a regular top flight performer.

Yet, on the few occasions he turned out for Swansea in the EPL, he didn’t let the side down.

But I think his niche is top end Championship defender.

How has his move to The Hawthorns been received at Elland Road amongst fans?

With wistful regret, I think it’s fair to say.

The Baggies splashed £4m (possibly rising to £6m), do you think he's worth this kind of cash?

With full fitness over a season, yes.

With injury doubts though, it might represent a bit of a chancy punt.

How do you expect him to perform this season at Albion?

I think he’ll do well when fit, and I wish him all the best, apart from when/if he turns out against Leeds United.
