Cardiff City have cooled their interest in Matt Phillips after the Baggies demanded £15m for the winger earlier this summer.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock has confirmed the Welsh side made contact with Albion at the start of the window about a potential deal for Phillips.

But the interest did not last long because Albion, who do not want to sell the 27-year-old, put Warnock off with their response.

Middlesbrough are also keen on Phillips, as former Albion boss Tony Pulis eyes up a reunion with the winger he signed for the Baggies.

But Albion will demand at least an eight-figure sum for the Scotland international, who still has two years left on his contract and was a crucial part of Darren Moore’s team during his six-game stint as caretaker.

“I made one phone call to West Brom six weeks ago and they told me £15m so I’ve never spoke about him since,” Warnock told Wales Online, when asked about Phillips.

Moore is keen to keep Phillips this summer, and played him up front on Saturday in the second hour of their 3-1 pre-season win over Swindon Town.

Phillips looked lively during the game, and whipped in a corner that was headed in by academy centre-back Kyle Jameson.

Albion are likely to lose winger James McClean this summer after the Republic of Ireland international refused to turn up for training in an attempt to force a move to Stoke City.

McClean has been fined two weeks’ wages by the Baggies, who want £6m for him and are keen to line up a replacement before selling.

Meanwhile, Nacer Chadli has claimed he has a number of offers from other clubs and will now look at them following his return from the World Cup.

The Belgian, who picked up a hamstring injury in the third-place play-off with England, has a £17m release clause.

“It is now time for me to call my agent and ask him what he has in store,” Chadli told HLN. “I think there’s a number of offers on the table, we are going to look at it all this week quietly and then we will make some decisions.”

So far this summer the Baggies have signed two goalkeepers, Sam Johnstone and Jonathan Bond, and a centre-back, Kyle Bartley.

But they are still attempting to bring in a third keeper and another centre-back after losing Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley.
