The Baggies have been ramping up their preparations for the 2018/19 campaign by taking part in a gruelling training camp at St Andrew’s University.

Those put through their paces included new goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as well as James Morrison, who is battling to prove his fitness and earn a new deal.

And Moore, who returned to the West Midlands with the squad yesterday, is pleased with the progress his players made.

“It’s been an excellent week,” the boss said.

“In terms of the group moving to the next stage of our preparations, I couldn’t be more satisfied.

“It was right for us coming up here and getting the focus back on, using some excellent facilities.

“The group have applied themselves really, really well.

“Not just the players but the staff too – the whole group. Physically and mentally, getting the players to where they are now has been a ‘win-win’ for us.”

While the players have worked a lot on their fitness north of the border, Moore has also been pleased with the work they have done with the ball.

“The biggest thing at this stage is the physicality and endurance of the group,” he continued.

“We’re seeing good signs developing within the group.

“But some of the football work we have been doing as well has also given us some good early signs.

“We have got three or four weeks to prepare and go into more detail. That’s what we want from our pre-season.

“The application from the players has been magnificent in terms of their going about their work and achieving here what we set out to do.”

Albion continue their pre-season preparations tomorrow when they travel to take on Swindon in a friendly.

The clash at the County Ground kicks off at 3pm.

The Baggies secured a 3-0 win over Barnet in their first friendly of the summer last weekend thanks to a brace from Hal Robson-Kanu and a Kyle Edwards strike.

Edwards spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign out on loan at League Two side Exeter City.

He made 28 appearances for the Grecians and scored two goals, one of which came in the League Two play-off final at Wembley where they were beaten 3-1 by Coventry.

“It’s good to be away with the first team,” he said.

“We’ve been doing a lot of ball work and running in order to get sharp for the season.

“I need to show the difference between the player I was before going out on loan and the player I am now.”
