Football fans will be able to snap up a 15-carat gold FA Cup Winners Medal from 1931 at an auction on May 31.

Auctioneers have already set a pre-sale guide price of between £6,000 and £9,000 for the medal, which was awarded to full back Bert Trentham after Albion beat Birmingham City 2-1 at Wembley.

The Baggies were in the Second Division when they lifted the trophy and sealed promotion to the First Division a week later.

Trentham also played in the 1935 FA Cup final, which the Baggies lost 4-2, and later played for Hereford United before retiring and setting up an ironmonger's in Ward End, Birmingham.

The rare medal, which has been cosigned for sale by Trentham's great-nephew, has "The Football Association WB Albion F.C. Cup Winners H. Trentham" inscribed on the back.

The medal is being sold by Surrey auction house Ewbank's.

Chris Ewbank, senior partner and auctioneer, said: "This piece of football history would be sure to be coveted by any football fan, however for West Brom fans, it is a truly unique opportunity to own a part of the club's heritage and I hope that it goes to a Baggies fan."

Bids can be made by calling 01483 223101 or live online through www.theauctionroom.com and www.ewbankauctions.co.uk.
