So Swansea's defeat to Southampton condemned us to relegation. Whilst it had been inevitable for a couple of months it was nonetheless still hard to take.

Even more so considering just a few hours earlier Darren Moore had been named Premier League Manager of the Month for April.

A lot of fingers have been pointed and blame has been laid at mainly Pulis’s and Pardew’s doors but in truth it is a combination of a lot of factors. Take away the first few weeks and the last few weeks of the season and the players have simply not been good enough.

To a certain extent I can understand they weren’t entirely happy or comfortable with playing under either Pulis or Pardew but should they not also be playing for themselves and their careers?

I’m not sure too many of our current squad could honestly say they have played to their full potential and if we are to bounce back things have to change.

Well it wasn’t meant to be, the impossible job became the improbable escape before eventually failing down in South Wales.

The fact we weren’t the first team to be relegated and stood a chance after 37 games is testament to Darren Moore.

The easy thing would be to praise the players for the last five games, but serious questions must be asked about their professionalism and desire that let us down.

In a small way it’s a relief to finally have it rubber-stamped and hopefully, the extra time we’ve got to start preparing for life in the Championship will allow us to move forward.

For my money, each player must be asked what their intentions are, any that don’t want to be here need to be moved on.

At least the club have looked at their prices and incentives to get people back to The Hawthorns.

Finally, the conundrum that is Big Dave; my heart says that he deserves the chance and would obviously give his all, my head says that a 46-game season, with a side that needs rebuilding might be a bit too much for his lack of experience.

One thing’s for sure, it’s a decision we must get right if we’re to return at the first attempt.

It's not the end, in fact it’s a new beginning – the rebuilding must start immediately.

Our demise this year became official as Swansea succumbed to a Southampton strike and down we went.

Darren Moore has won manager of the month, and let’s use that as a catalyst to move forward.

The end – despite a late rally – was what we all feared and expected.

There will be a mass exodus, and clearing of dead wood.

The larger paypacket ‘stars’ will jump ship and whoever takes the reins in the Championship needs to build a free-flowing attacking squad capable of a swift return to the top flight,

We should without a doubt hold the owner and board to account.

West Brom are renowned for being frugal but this has to stop, we have the cash, we have the desire, time to spend on good value talent.

And if Darren Moore remains, one suspects the exodus will be lessened. All eyes are now on Guochuan Lai and his ability to fund the squad’s repair.

It may be the end of our present Premier League stay but it’s a new start now. Positively forward we march.
