West Brom's Craig Dawson shining in his central role under Darren Moore

Craig Dawson has impressed Darren Moore since moving into his preferred central position.

The 27-year-old spent almost three years playing at right-back, but has been shunted inside by the caretaker boss in recent weeks.

And he’s repaid Moore with a trio of dominant performances at the back.

“Dawson’s been solid,” said Moore. “I just looked at him and see him as a central defender. It’s been water off a duck’s back for him really.

“He’s done really well at centre-back and right-back. He’s got his versatility.

“But he’s done really well in that central position. He’s been a credit to himself.”

Three of Albion’s four wins in the league this season have come with Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi as the centre-back pairing and, on all three occasions, the Baggies kept a clean sheet.

“The understanding’s been good,” added Moore. “Sometimes you get those clicks within players, when they just understand each other’s games.

“You’d say those two do. It’s been good and long may they continue to perform at the level they have set for this club.”

Burnley are interested in taking Dawson from Albion this summer, but Moore says the club will sit down with the 27-year-old in the summer to discuss his future.

“At the moment we’d keep them all,” he said. “I can’t speculate really on what’s going to happen in the summer.

“Let’s get through these remaining fixtures of the season and see what takes place in the summer. When that moment approaches we’ll have a good chat with him then.”

However, Moore confirmed last week that Jonny Evans still had a ‘huge part’ to play this season and he brought the club captain on for the last 20 minutes of the draw with Liverpool.

Even though Albion’s caretaker has named the same starting XI in his first three games, he’s not afraid to change it if needed.

“I could change it,” he said. “They’re a good squad. You can change it at any time, with any fixture.

“I wouldn’t be reluctant, if we see it fit to change it, looking at the game. We believe we’ve got a good squad, and if need be we’ll change it.”
