Alan Pardew: Things are going against West Brom

Alan Pardew has expressed his dismay over Albion's 'galling' defeat at Bournemouth, stating: "There’s things going against us."

The Baggies took the lead at the Vitality Stadium through Jay Rodriguez but Jordon Ibe equalised before Junior Stanislas's last-gasp free-kick saw the hosts claim the three points.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster let Ibe's leveller slip through his fingers too, leaving Albion 10 points from Premier League safety.

"It’s tough for us, tough for my players in particular because, in terms of the game plan and delivering it, I couldn’t really ask for any more from them," said Pardew.

"We got ourselves in a great position, made a couple of errors and got punished for it.

"That’s the story of our season a little bit.

"It was galling because, obviously, without it being our last chance, it’s getting near last-chance saloon.

"We needed to get something and it’s such a galling way to end the game, putting it into the top corner like that."

Pardew made his first substitution with quarter of an hour to go, replacing skipper Jonny Evans with winger Matt Phillips.

Evans was taken off as he was still feeling the effects of a virus which saw him miss last weekend's 4-1 loss to Leicester.

Phillips had a header cleared off the line at the death.

"I was pleased with every individual, really. We were certainly unlucky because we weren’t expecting to lose Jonny Evans," said Pardew, who has won just one of 17 league games as Baggies chief.

"That little change was unfortunate, he couldn’t move. He didn’t have the energy levels after being ill last week.

"We didn’t really think that was going to happen. It’s just tough. There’s things going against us.

"When you’re down the bottom of the league that does happen. Unfortunately for us, we are running out of time.

"I just think there’s certain areas of the team where we make mistakes and get punished."

He added: "It’s difficult. This was particularly harsh, we didn’t make many errors in the whole game but unfortunately we’ve lost.
