West Brom v Leicester - Danny Simpson poised to be handed a Foxes recall

Claude Puel is set to recall Danny Simpson for Leicester’s trip to The Hawthorns tomorrow.

The Foxes boss dropped the defender last week against Bournemouth but says there is no problem between the two.

Simpson has been City’s regular right-back, when fit, since the title-winning season but he wasn’t included in the squad last week as Daniel Amartey was preferred.

However, Amartey damaged a hamstring early in the game and is now out for around a month.

“It is not a difficult situation,” said Puel. “It is just competition between players. I found Daniel Amartey has made good progress in this position and can offer good things.

“Danny came back after his hamstring injury and needed perhaps a little more time to get back to a high level.

“I think the level between the two players at this time is close and it is good for the squad to have competition between them, with a good spirit to fight for the place.

"It is a good thing. I have had some discussion with Danny, like all the players. I like to give to the player a discussion, not just about why they play or not.

“This is the life of competition of a player in the squad, but also to give them some possibility to continue to improve and work on some aspect of their play.”

Another player who will figure is Riyad Mahrez, back in the fold following his failed move to Manchester City in the January transfer window.

And Mahrez says the saga has not caused any tension within the club, even if he declined to confirm he would not seek another move in the summer.

He said: “I was away from here because I needed some time to think. We’ve moved on now.

"Everyone to be honest has been very good and it’s the past now. It was difficult but I spoke with the players, I spoke with the manager, I spoke with everyone. Everyone was OK, was good. Now it’s the past, it’s behind me.”

Mahrez added: “Manchester City is a good move for everyone, but it’s the past. I really don’t want to talk about this, because it’s behind me.

"If we start talking about this it’s like coming back to this transfer window and now I’m looking forward and trying to give my best for the team and that’s the most important.”

Asked if he had any regrets about how he handled the situation, he said: “You always have regrets, but at the time I thought it was the best thing to do. I have always been in contact with the club. The club handled it very well. We had some discussions and we moved on.”

Mahrez also brushed off the hoax retirement announcement posted on his Facebook page this week.

Mahrez said: “I wasn’t bothered. It won’t affect me, so I don’t know why they try to do that.”
