The Northern Irishman, who issued an apology with Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill last night, has been picked for today's FA Cup fifth round clash with Southampton alongside Barry.

But he will not wear the captain's armband, which has instead been handed to fellow compatriot Gareth McAuley.

McAuley comes in for Kieran Gibbs in one of three changes to the team.

Jay Rodriguez replaces the injured Daniel Sturridge and James McClean starts in place of Chris Brunt, who drops to the bench.

  • Today's team: Foster, Dawson, McAuley (c), Hegazi, Evans, Phillips, Barry, Krychowiak, McClean, Rodriguez, Rondon. Subs: Myhill, Nyom, Gabr, Yacob, Brunt, Field, Burke.
