Four senior players were interviewed by Spanish police in the early hours of Thursday morning after allegedly stealing a taxi in Barcelona on a trip the head coach organised.

That came less than 48 hours after Chinese owner Guochuan Lai had sacked chairman John Williams and chief executive Martin Goodman.

Pardew has only won one league game out of 13 and with the Baggies five points adrift at the foot of the table, he's concerned about his own future.

"When your chairman and financial director have been moved on you can't be certain of your job," he admitted. "You just have to try and do your job and that's what I'll do.

"I'm an experienced manager and I'm going to try and use my experience to get us out of this situation."

Albion have opened an internal investigation into the incident in Barcelona after four senior players were interviewed by police.

It's been alleged that they took a taxi to McDonald's before driving it back to their hotel themselves and leaving the driver at the fast food restaurant.

"We're having an investigation and hopefully we'll get to the bottom of the story," said Pardew. "It wasn’t what I wanted.

"We’ve gone there to get ourselves up for the run-in. This is obviously not ideal.

"They broke a curfew and that’s unacceptable and I feel a bit let down by that.

"It's been a tough week for us, a tough week for me, a tough week for everybody involved in West Brom, not least our fans. In hindsight maybe I should have stayed in England."

Pardew has taken the club from above the drop zone to bottom of the table and he admitted that the job had been more challenging than he was expecting.

He said: "I think it's fair to say that yes. In lots of respects, but that doesn't mean we can't get out of it. I think we can.

"It's about delivering a level of performance on the pitch, and take our chances when they come along.

"After the events of the last few days, any win is important. I'm going to try and put things aside and pick my best side (for today's game against Southampton)."
