Absolutely boinging – Declan Langford’s dedication at Anfield

Fans from as far away as Norway saw five-year-old Declan Langford at his first West Bromwich Albion away game – where a strong Liverpool side were sent crashing out of the FA Cup after a 3-2 victory at their famous Anfield stadium.

And through the power of social media and rallying of Albion fans the club have now sent Declan, from West Bromwich, an official shirt signed by his favourite player – defender Kieran Gibbs. Father Shaun Langford, 34, who has followed the club for more than 20 years, said: “We got a sheet together and 110 per cent he held that sign up for 90 minutes.

“It was his first away game and obviously with him holding this sign up all the fans around him felt so besotted by him and wanted him so much to get this shirt.

“All the fans around us were saying ‘it is melting our hearts’.

“Later on, I got phone calls saying he was on BT Sport and some of the Albion fans are living in Norway doing a bit of work over there and they text me saying ‘your lad’s on Norwegian TV’. Now it has just gone from strength to strength – on Facebook he has got over 300 likes on the one picture and he is all over Twitter and Instagram.”

He added: “It was the kit man who sorted it and got him his favourite player Kieran Gibbs’ top and he got him to sign it – I have just got to say thanks to Jacko the kit man and Snarka who runs a lot of the pages on Twitter and Facebook.

“I can not believe how close knit the Albion are – you get your bad points in football but this has really showed me how much a close unit West Brom are.”
