Dave Challenor and Richard Eades were the Baggies mascots together.

Mascots from all over the country will be descending on Halesowen Town on April 29 to feature in the fun match that is sure to provide fans with a great spectacle.

There will then be a game between a West Brom All-Stars team led by former midfielder Andy Johnson and Boing FC, the Albion supporters’ team Eades used to play for.

The father-of-two, who was an Albion mascot for nearly two decades, died suddenly on Boxing Day, and there were tributes to him at The Hawthorns when Arsenal visited on New Year’s Eve.

Albion’s players donated money to his family in the immediate aftermath of his death but Challenor - who dresses up as Baggie Bird on match days - wants to raise enough funds to treat the children in 2018.

“We’re raising money for his family because I want them to have a magical year,” said Challenor. “Last year ended so terribly, I want to raise as much money as I can put it into a fund for his kids.

“Carly (his widow) will be alright, but if the kids want to see Little Mix or something, there’s something there. Hopefully it’ll be case of money’s no object this year.”

Challenor is confident that mascots from Wolves, Walsall, Birmingham City, Manchester City, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Yeovil Town, Hartlepool, and Exeter City will all join in the match.

He’s hoping to entice more to get involved, including those from other sports.

“I think it will be a fitting tribute for him really,” said Challenor. “It’s been quite nice for me to find out how liked we are. I need to find a big ball, because mascots can’t really see well. There’s bound to be comedy value.

“I’m also throwing it open to all mascots from other sports. Hoping to get Worcester Warriors involved.”

Hundreds of people have already registered an interest in coming the match, which is just one part of a whole day devoted to fundraising money for the Eades family.

Beforehand there will be a nine-a-side tournament featuring teams from all aspects of Richard’s life.

The mascot game will provide some light relief before Johnson’s All-Star side take on Boing FC in the main event.

The event starts at 11am on Sunday, April 29, at Halesowen Town. Ticket prices are yet to be decided.
