Ally Robertson: Let's win for Cyrille Regis

It’s set to be an emotional day at Goodison Park for everyone connected to the Albion because of what’s happened this week.

Hopefully, the players will be able to draw on that emotion, without letting it overcome them.

They’ve still got a job to do, and on the back of two victories in a row, it’s important to carry on the recent positivity that has been rightly overshadowed this week.

The team have got to stay professional, while thinking ‘let’s do this for Cyrille,’ because winning a game of football in his honour is exactly what he would have wanted.

Last weekend’s match against Brighton has faded into the background in light of this week’s tragic events.

But it was a highly-important victory that has got the team back to winning ways and Alan Pardew off the mark.

We could have ended up scoring three or four, and the noise inside The Hawthorns was fantastic.

I’m a fan of the clappers, because they create that little bit of extra atmosphere for the players.

When I played, I was one of those who always tried to switch off from the crowd and stay fully concentrated on my game.

But it’s impossible to ignore it sometimes. When it’s eerily quiet you can sense it, and when the crowd roars you naturally feed off the atmosphere.

I’m sure when we’ve got those clappers going in all four corners of the stadium, it lifts the players.

We’re nearing the end of the transfer window and there’s still been no movement in or out.

It would be nice to bring in another player or two to freshen up the squad and lift the supporters.

Even if we can’t, the current crop have showed signs in recent weeks that they’re good enough to keep the club up.

It seems Grzegorz Krychowiak has proven himself to Pardew and it’s good to see the defenders getting back on the scoresheet, like last season.

It shouldn’t be down to them, of course, but corners and free-kicks have been a useful weapon in the past and in our current situation, every goal is a good goal.

But the team is also starting to create more from open play – it’s refreshing to see them playing football.

Even better is the recent record of turning those performances into results.

We battered Everton on Boxing Day but somehow failed to score. But the team need to forget that game, because it means nothing this weekend. Today is a new chance.
