West Brom blog: Alan Pardew checkpoint

It’s fair to say that we’ve not quite experienced the ‘new manager bounce’ since Pardew arrived – not in terms of results at least...writes Baggies blogger Nathan Carr.

However, we’ve certainly seen an improvement in the performance levels compared to what was served up under Tony Pulis.

There’s been a bolder, more attack-minded approach instigated by the 56-year-old which has led to more chances being created, although an inability to convert those chances is still costing us.

The team dominated for large periods against Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Everton – somehow only coming away with two out of a possible nine points - and gave both Liverpool and Arsenal something to think about, as well as giving Manchester United a run for their money.

The Swansea and West Ham matches, meanwhile, were disappointing.

Defensively we’ve been solid, shipping just nine goals in eight outings. That’s roughly a goal a game which is a respectable record.

Pardew needs to be backed by Guochuan Lai in the transfer market – that is for sure. As I wrote last week, it’s obvious to everyone where needs strengthening: up front.

It’s still early on in his Albion career, but overall, I think Pardew has done a relatively decent job so far and I continue to believe in him and the players to get us out of this situation.

Bring on Brighton and Hove Albion.
