Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku. (AMA)

Ben Foster

Nothing he could have done about Lukaku’s header and was bamboozled by the deflection off Hegazi’s boot for Lingard’s goal. 5/10

Allan Nyom

Better here than he was at Anfield, although United kept foraging down his flank, and it was Rashford’s cross from that wing that Lukaku headed in. 5/10

Jonny Evans

The former Manchester United defender lost Lukaku twice in the box, and let him drift onto Gibbs at the back post. The second time, he was punished. Was his usual composed self in possession and had a hand in the goal. 6/10

Ahmed Hegazi

Was involved in a few tussles with United players but never strayed over the line, despite Rashford’s theatrics. Deflected in United’s second goal. 6/10

Kieran Gibbs

Put in a superb defensive header to deny Lukaku once, but couldn’t repeat the trick minutes later, although that wasn’t necessarily his fault. Always willing to get forward. 6/10

Oliver Burke

Raw, prone to losing the ball, and should have done better in the build up to Lukaku’s goal, but there were flashes of promise from the pacy debutant. He was the only one willing to run at the United defence, and put in a great cross in the second half. With a bit of coaching, could be a real threat. 6/10

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Unable to follow up his mid-week exploits with a similar performance, and lost possession far too readily. Passes backwards and sidewards too often for someone of his pedigree. 4/10

Claudio Yacob

Dragged off at half-time and looked jaded after the midweek game. 5/10

Jake Livermore

Had to be urged by the fans to have a shot and struggled to create much of note. 6/10

James McClean

His quality of delivery was poor in the first half, but never stopped trying and should have had a penalty after the break. 6/10

Salomon Rondon

Has certainly improved in recent weeks but rarely threatened the goal. 6/10

Substitutes

Gareth Barry (Yacob 45)

Scored Albion's goal and played several incisive passes forward. Improved the Baggies. 7/10

Jay Rodriguez (Burke 64)

Flashed a difficult header wide and hit a volley on target. Made a nuisance of himself. 6/10

Chris Brunt (Krychowiak 71) - Albion's man of the match

Had the least time on the pitch, but did the most damage. Slipped Rondon through immediately, put a cross on Rodriguez's head, and wreaked havoc with two wicked corners, one of which led to the goal. 8/10

Unused: Myhill, McAuley, Field, Robson-Kanu.
