The Albion winger, who was the subject of an £8million bid from Burnley in the summer, is an unabashed Celtic fan.

And the 28-year-old, who wants to retire at home-town club Derry City, is also hoping his career takes him north of the border at some point.

"It’s always been a dream of mine," he told Celtic's official website. "If I retire from football and never get to pull on the green-and-white jersey and run out at Celtic Park, it will be a massive regret for me.

"It’s a dream I have never shied away from expressing. If that dream did come true, which I hope it does, it would mean a lot to me and fingers crossed it can happen."

McClean was born in Derry, and plays international football for the Republic of Ireland.

He's only started three league games so far this season for the Baggies, but he's featured in every match-day squad so far and put in an impressive performance on the wing at Anfield on Wednesday night.

His contract with the Baggies runs until the summer of 2019, although the club have an option to extend the deal by a further year.

He's previously stated his desire to finish his career at Derry City, where he played before Sunderland spotted him.

But he would also love to pull on the green-and-white hoops of Celtic.

"Growing up where I did, there is a massive Celtic influence," he said. "Where I am from, you are born into it and you grow up with it and ever since then, it’s been a love affair.

"It’s a club that I grew up supporting as wee boy and I have taken that on. It’s a club that means a lot to me. You’re born into it and grow up with it.

"You have your Man United and Liverpool fans but where I grew up is predominantly a Celtic area.

"You’re taken to the bars and watch the games, like the Glasgow derbies. You take a love to it and it’s pretty special."

McClean has made 94 appearances for the Baggies since he joined from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015 for £1.5million, and has scored four goals.
