Thankfully as I’m writing this, the freshest game for us is the Liverpool one. The less said about Swansea the better.

Although there is clear improvement in us passing, moving and getting up the pitch – that was a massive game to lose after draws at home to Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

It left us in a precarious situation with six tough games in a row and finally dropping into the relegation zone on Tuesday made the situation real for some.

Instead of buckling against a team with the in-form Premier League player at the moment, Mohamed Salah – as well as Coutinho, Firmino and Mane attacking us – we dug in, stayed disciplined and still made chances ourselves.

We hit the woodwork twice (even if one was offside) and forced Karius into some good saves.

Krycowiak had probably his best game, Livermore contributed massively and Hegazi seems to consistently be a contender for man of the match.

McClean too contributed in a positive way, Rondon is looking back to his best and just needs a couple of goals while Robson-Kanu continues to overachieve.

For the first time in a long time there is some positivity. Bring on Manchester United!

As disappointing as it was leaving the third best team in Wales (behind The New Saints and Cardiff) with deservedly nothing, the result against Liverpool in midweek was certainly a more encouraging one.

Playing away against any top six side usually results in defeat, but I felt we handled it well considering how Liverpool would have wanted to make up for the draw with Everton.

If the last few games has proven anything, it is how desperate we are in the forward line, and only adding Jay Rodriguez in the summer was clearly not good enough. I can’t fault Rondon’s commitment and like most supporters feel for what he had to put up with under Pulis.

Although his goal scoring form isn’t as good as it should or could be, it proves he needs serious competition.

Robson-Kanu and Rodriguez are good left sided attack minded players but not all out strikers in my opinion.

Not only is it competition that’s needed, but an attack-minded midfielder or two would be welcomed too. It kills me having to wait on Morrison who’s needed back so desperately. Hopefully January can bring us the goals we’ve been praying for.

No bounce and no massive change in desire – things are really starting to smart.

Yes it was free-scoring Liverpool and to keep them at bay deserves applause, but it is all about what Alan Pardew does not have. He does not have either time nor a goalscorer at his hands, he does not have a magic wand.

After inheriting the rear-guarded Pulis bunch, Pardew needs much more time to shape what he wants to achieve.

Instead, we are in a dog-fight and survival is all that matters now. A number of so-called top players’ need to perform better, and if they show the desire as was on show at Anfield, then it’s a base to work from.

But I cannot see where the goals are going to come from and that is my real fear. As tough as it was at Liverpool certain players looked leggy and a yard slower.

One could see what Pardew was trying to instil. A point from Anfield is a well-earned one and maybe its a point that will save us.

I’d be lying if I said I thought we could have gotten something from the Liverpool game.

After the disappointing performance and defeat away at Swansea and Liverpool’s draw at home against fierce local rivals Everton, I thought a pasting was on the cards, especially when I saw their starting line-up!

But Alan Pardew and the players well and truly proved me wrong.

With the plethora of attacking talent they have at their disposal, to come away from Anfield with a point and a clean sheet is a fantastic result.

The players responded superbly to Saturdays poor display and proved that they are 100% up for a fight and determined to steer the club away from the wrong end of the table.

As Pardew said after the game, we can take a lot of positives from that performance and use that display as a platform now to push on and turn some of these draws into wins.

After the Swansea game I had wrote off our chances of getting anything from the next two (Liverpool, Man United) but after Wednesday night, I’m definitely a lot more confident of us springing a surprise Sunday against Man United.

Come on you Baggies!
