West Brom boss Tony Pulis: We rode our luck in Burnley victory

Tony Pulis admits Albion rode their luck at times today as they recorded back-to-back victories at the start of a top-tier season for the first time since 1978.

The Baggies beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor thanks to Hal Robson-Kanu's well-taken goal 20 minutes from time.

The substitute striker was then sent off for leading with his arm, and Pulis admitted that those last 10 minutes of the game playing with 10 men felt like hours.

But Burnley had 19 shots in the game, and failed to test Ben Foster at all.

"We've had to ride our luck at times," said Pulis. "But the lads have fought and fought.

"It was difficult. Hal was sent off with what - 10 minutes to go - it seemed like an hour. We had to defend for our lives.

"What Burnley do they do very well. They deserve a lot of credit for it."

Robson-Kanu sparked a gritty game into life after coming in with roughly half an hour to go.

First, he latched on to a Matt Phillips header before outmuscling James Tarkowski and finishing smartly at the near post.

But then eight minutes from time he was shown a straight red for jumping into Matt Lowton with a leading arm that caught the full-back's face.

"He obviously took his goal really well," said Pulis. "It was a good goal. And then the sending off is obviously disappointing.

"I've not seen it, but I'll have a good look at it and then I'll comment.

"Whether it was or wasn't the referee has deemed that decision so we have to get on with it."

Robson-Kanu appeared to hold up a coin as he trudged off the pitch that was allegedly thrown at him by someone in the home crowd.

"I didn't see anything," said Pulis. "He's not said anything to me and I've not seen anything. It's the first I've heard of that."

Albion currently sit second in the fledgling table and have recorded two victories from their opening two games for the first time ever in the Premier League.

But Pulis doesn't want this success to cloud the fact he needs to strengthen his squad before the window shuts.

"We just want to bring a few players in now if we possibly can," he said. "That's the most important thing."

Captain Jonny Evans missed the game with a hamstring injury and didn't travel to Burnley with the squad.

But Pulis dismissed the suggestion his absence had anything to do with the ongoing interest from Manchester City.

"I've said this before, Jonny is not the type of lad - if Man City were involved and interested - to not play a game of football if he was fit," he said.

"He's a smashing lad, a really good lad and I've got a lot of time for him. He's been fantastic for us. This injury came before Man City made an enquiry."
