West Brom table bid of £18m for Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin
Albion have signalled their intent ahead of the January transfer window by tabling a club record bid for Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The France international is among the Baggies top targets and they have now formalised their interest, with an offer thought to be around the £18million mark.
Everton have already been in talks with United over the 27-year-old, who looks certain to leave Old Trafford next month after being frozen out under Jose Mourinho.
Schneiderlin worked under Toffees boss Ronald Koeman at Southampton and while Albion accept they have a serious battle on their hands to land the player, it is one they are determined to fight nevertheless.
The club's board and boss Tony Pulis are in agreement over the need to make quality additions to a squad which currently sits eighth in the Premier League and the Welshman has been assured of funds.
United paid Southampton £24million for Schneiderlin less than 18 months ago but he has made only three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, for a total of just 11 minutes.
If successful, Albion's bid would comfortably exceed the £13million paid to Tottenham for Nacer Chadli last summer, the club's current record.
The offer is meanwhile an indication of Albion's desire to get business done quickly, though there is acceptance that is not always possible during a window when many other teams are eager to strengthen.
Pulis is also in the market for a striker and a left-sided winger, though reports linking the Baggies with Villa's Rudy Gestede and Hull City's Robert Snodgrass are understood to be wide of the mark.
